Biden Admin To Complete More Of Trump’s Border Wall Project, Closing 4 Gaps

The Biden administration is set to close four wide gaps in the U.S.-Mexico border wall in an open area of southern Arizona near Yuma, to “address operational impacts” and “immediate life and safety risks.”

The four gaps are within an incomplete border barrier project—the former Yuma 6 project area near the Morelos Dam, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The area has become one of the busiest corridors for illegal crossings.

The border barrier project, which was operational under the Trump administration, was left incomplete after President Joe Biden in 2021 sent back $2.2 billion in border wall funds to the Department of Defense to be used for overseas defense construction projects. The funds had previously been diverted by President Donald Trump to build the border wall, which at one time was going up at the pace of one mile a day. Completing the border wall was among Trump’s top campaign promises.

“Due to the proximity to the Morelos Dam and the swift moving Colorado River, this area presents safety and life hazard risks for migrants attempting to cross into the United States where there is a risk of drownings and injuries from falls,” the DHS stated on July 28. “This area also poses a life and safety risk to first responders and agents responding to incidents in this area.

Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas authorized the project’s completion, which will be paid for out of the DHS’s fiscal year 2021 budget.

“Prior to construction, DHS will engage in standard environmental planning and conduct stakeholder outreach and consultation. DHS will move as expeditiously as possible, while still maintaining environmental stewardship,” the statement continued. “This project supports CBP’s and DHS’s priority to deploy modern, effective border measures and also improving safety and security along the Southwest Border.”

The U.S. Border Patrol’s Yuma Sector has quickly emerged as the third busiest of nine sectors along the border, with much of the traffic funneling through the Morelos Dam. Illegal immigrants arrive in the small town of Algodones and walk unencumbered across a concrete ledge on the dam to the United States, where they wait for U.S. Border Patrol agents to take them into custody.

In the Yuma sector alone, U.S. border agents stopped illegal immigrants 160,482 times from January through June, a figure nearly four times that of the same period in 2021, according to CBP data. The only other sectors with more traffic were Del Rio and Rio Grande Valley in South Texas.

Border Crisis Contributed To Botched Response To Uvalde School Massacre: Report

Border Crisis Contributed To Botched Response To Uvalde School Massacre: Report

Authored by Charlotte Cuthbertson via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

The school in which 19 children and two teachers were massacred on May 24, had been in lockdown four times in the month prior to the shooting, said Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin.

Schools in the whole district had been in lockdown mode 47 times since February due to the border crisis spilling into the city, which is a smuggling corridor from the U.S.–Mexico border to San Antonio, a recent Texas House of Representatives report stated.

Ninety percent of the lockdowns were due to law enforcement chases of suspected smuggling vehicles through Uvalde and subsequent bailouts—where the driver crashes or stops the vehicle and occupants jump out and scatter from law enforcement, the report said.

The sheer increase in bailouts over the past 18 months and the subsequent lockdowns “contributed to a diminished sense of vigilance about responding to security alerts,” the Texas House report states.

“The series of bailout-related alerts led teachers and administrators to respond to all alerts with less urgency—when they heard the sound of an alert, many assumed that it was another bailout.”

Kenneth Mueller, director of student services for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) testified to the committee that parents became so concerned about the number of bailouts occurring near the elementary-school campuses that they offered to hire off-duty police to supplement the Uvalde CISD police presence.

Two months after the deadly massacre at Robb Elementary School, the school district is preparing for the beginning of a new year. But the Texas House review of law enforcement’s response to the May 24 shooting revealed a series of alarming failures by first responders. As a result, parents aren’t ready to send their kids back to a district they say is unsafe and where security problems remain unremedied.

“We’re 30 days from school starting and we’re having pursuits come through. We’re having bailouts—we had one this morning in Uvalde,” McLaughlin told The Epoch Times on July 12.

“And what’s going to happen when we have a bailout right by school and it has to go into lockdown? How much panic is there going to be? How much trauma is that going to cause these kids? A ton.”

Parents of children who were slain in the shooting have told the mayor they’re considering homeschooling their other children.

“I said I understand, but I can promise you from the city’s standpoint, we will do everything that we can to make sure your kids are safe,” McLaughlin said he told concerned parents.

The mayor has requested additional state troopers to be deployed to Uvalde for the first two weeks of the school year.

When asked if he thought some sort of “lockdown fatigue” existed at schools prior to the massacre, McLaughlin said, “I would think there would be, but I can’t speak for the school district.”

Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas made the claim on Tuesday that the border “is secure,” even as roughly 4 million illegal immigrants have crossed since President Biden took office. Mayorkas made the eyebrow-raising comments during an appearance at the Aspen Security Forum. “Look, the border is secure,” he said. “We are working to make […]

Watch: Texas AG Demands Biden Apologise To Border Agents Falsely Accused Of Whipping Migrants

Watch: Texas AG Demands Biden Apologise To Border Agents Falsely Accused Of Whipping Migrants

Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News,

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has demanded that Joe Biden publicly apologise to four Border Patrol agents who were falsely accused of whipping Haitian migrants last year, and who Biden promised would “pay” for it.

As we highlighted three months ago, the agents were completely cleared of all charges, a fact now confirmed by a 500-page report from Customs and Border Protection.

“There is no evidence that BPAs involved in this incident struck, intentionally or otherwise, any migrant with their reins,” the report reads, adding

“The horses involved in this incident were equipped with split reins which can be twirled by the rider to guide the horse’s movements. One BPA involved in this incident also reported twirling these split reins as a distancing tactic.”

Appearing on Fox News, Paxton noted “There’s no doubt this was political. And it’s really unfortunate for these border agents who’ve given their lives to securing our border and defending Americans.”

The attorney general continued, “And here they are being punished, they should be rewarded. They should be taken care of. Instead, their careers may be ruined, and they’ve been humiliated in front of the entire American public.”

Paxton further urged, “it’s really wrong. I would expect instead that Joe Biden and some of these political leaders should come out and actually apologize to these guys for what they’ve been through.”

As we also highlighted last month, the Biden administration still intends to punish the border agents for “administrative violations”.

The CBP report claims that the agents acted unprofessionally, unsafely and used unnecessary force in apprehending the migrants in Del Rio, Texas, and also states that the agents yelled profanity and insults related to one migrant’s national origin.

The Daily Caller reports that the CBP has proposed two charges against the agents, one for “poor judgment” in ordering the migrants “to go back to Mexico, or words to that effect,” and another for “unsafe conduct” for maneuvering a horse “in a way that caused a noncitizen to fall backward into the Rio Grande River … thereby compromising the safety of the noncitizen, yourself, and your horse.”

The CBP also notes “We consider that your misconduct received significant media attention and had a negative impact on the reputation of the Agency.”

There is no mention of the negative impact that Democrats and DHS officials openly calling the agents racists had though.

National Border Patrol Council President for the Del Rio border sector Jon Anfinsen has accused Biden’s Department of Homeland Security of “trying to save face and propose some kind of discipline just so they can justify their claims from day one.”

Nine former senior Border Patrol officials, including four national Border Patrol chiefs wrote to DHS head Alejandro Mayorkas last month voicing opposition to the proposed punishment of the agents.

“We collectively believe and point out that the statements made by the President and Vice President predictively prejudged the desired outcome of the investigation and may therefore influence the case,” the former officials wrote, adding that “Stating outright that there will be consequences presumes the result of an investigation.”

House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy has also called for Democrats to apologise, declaring that “Our brave Border Patrol agents work to secure our border every day despite the fact that President Biden makes their mission more difficult and more dangerous because of his unconscionable support for a wide-open southern border.”

McCarthy also noted of the agents, “Their reputation was smeared by President Biden, Vice President Harris, and their allies in the media – and they should all apologize.”

The statement continued, “These agents were cleared of criminal wrongdoing months ago, but instead of admitting they were wrong, the Biden administration is doubling down on baselessly attacking these agents to perpetuate their open-border agenda.”

Kremlin Says 4 Dead After “Deliberate” Ukrainian Missile Attack On Russian Border City

Kremlin Says 4 Dead After “Deliberate” Ukrainian Missile Attack On Russian Border City

Russian authorities are saying that a series of strikes rocked one of its cities near the border with Ukraine. Russia is calling it a “deliberate” Ukrainian attack on its territory in the early hours of Sunday morning, which reportedly killed at least four people in the city of Belgorod.

“The regional governor said the blasts hit dozens of residential buildings and air defenses had been activated,” BBC reports. “The Kremlin said that Sunday’s attack had been a deliberate attempt by Ukrainian forces to target civilians.”

Map source: CNN

However, as BBC also notes, “Ukraine dismissed the claim, saying the Russians had lied about similar incidents in the past.”

Belgorod is near Ukraine’s large northern city of Kharkiv. Lying just 25 miles north across the Ukrainian border, the major city in Russia’s south has 370,000 residents.

It’s not the first time potentially ‘errant’ missiles have struck Russian territory – or also it’s not the first time Russia has accused Ukraine of a deliberate cross-border attack, but the damage and death toll is the most significant and extensive thus far, with a major emergency response at the scenes of impact ongoing.

An Al Jazeera war reporter inside Ukraine said of the alleged incident: “We are trying to piece together exactly what happened through social media reports. Al Jazeera cannot confirm anything that either side is saying at this point.”

Correspondent Alan Fisher added: “What appears is that somewhere around 25 missiles were fired towards the airport which is a Russian base in Belgorod. It appears that some of those missiles may have hit a residential area. That’s certainly what the media is saying …”

If this figure of a volley of more than two dozen rockets proves accurate, it would indeed strongly suggest the Russian city was deliberately targeted, and wasn’t merely an incident with a few errant missiles.

Meanwhile, some observers are speculating that Ukraine could possibly have used recently provided US long-range rockets to hit deep within Russia’s borders, which if true would signal massive escalation in the war.

Starting a week ago, Ukraine began touting that its US-suppled M142 HIMARS, a high mobility artillery rocket system with a range of 40-50 miles (the range of the version of the system Washington transferred last month), is having success against Russian forces on the battlefield.

Al Jazeera’s Fisher framed it as possibly a ‘revenge’ attack by the Ukrainian side, commenting, “This of course comes  on the back of a Russian attack last week which hit a shopping centre and then on Friday we saw 21 people killed in Odesa and the Ukrainians were accusing the Russians of deliberately targeting residential areas.” Additionally Russia just captured all of Luhansk province with the fall of Lysychansk.

Later in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry updated the death toll from three killed to four:

Russian ant-aircraft defences shot down three Tochka-U cluster missiles launched by Ukrainian nationalists against Belgorod,” Russia’s defense ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, said Sunday. “After the destruction of the Ukrainian missiles, the debris of one of them fell on a house”.

Another two bodies were pulled from the rubble Sunday morning, news outlet Baza reported.

So far there’s been outside independent media confirmation of the Russian statements. But social media videos are widely circulating that appear to confirm major strikes on the city.

Russian media video appears to show Russian anti-air defenses active over the city…

The local Russian governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, cited extensive damage to the city from the strikes, describing that at least 11 apartment buildings and 39 residential houses have been damaged or destroyed. He also said Russian defensive anti-air systems were triggered amid the attack, but this also remains unconfirmed.

Russia has lately been ramping up its attacks on locations further West in Ukraine, including on “decision-making centers” – actions which will likely only now increase with this latest Belgorod incident, also as Western powers are being warned not to provide long-range weapons.
