In the United Kingdom, residents may soon have to upload a selfie to an adult website to prove they’re old enough to watch pornography.
The proposal, from the watchdog Ofcom, is meant to protect children from sexually explicit content under the country’s Online Safety Act.
The rules would require adult websites to use facial recognition technology to confirm anyone using their site is above the legal age requirement to view pornography.

“The technology uses artificial intelligence to guess a person’s age by comparing a photo of them with a database of thousands of other pictures and could deny access to some users above 18 under a ‘challenge 25’ system,” Daily Mail reports.
