Former President Donald Trump has tapped U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) to head up his New Jersey campaign. According to a report from the New Jersey Globe, Trump is optimistic that he can carry the state in the general election and will schedule rallies there.
Van Drew — a former Democrat who defected from the party before over objections to the first impeachment trial of the former president — has since become one of Trump’s strongest allies in the Garden State. He has cruised to re-election twice since the party switch and has said he will vote to impeach President Biden.
With Van Drew’s help, Trump is confident he can not only defeat former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in the state’s primary, but the general election as well.
“I have known Jeff for a long time and consider him to be one of the best political minds anywhere,” Trump said. “He feels, as do I, that because the Biden Administration has been so bad to the Garden State, that we have a very good chance of winning New Jersey.”
