Known for leading Republicans during a particularly robust GOP wave in the mid-’90s, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) recently identified what he believes could usher in a new era of conservative dominance on Capitol Hill.
He appeared on the Fox Business Network following the passage of a continuing resolution to fund the government, which was backed by President Donald Trump.
As the Daily Caller reported:
“The new majority leader, John Thune, has worked very closely with Speaker Johnson and President Trump. And it was the team of the three of them that just got this particular continuing resolution through,” Gingrich said.
Gingrich said that this shift is noteworthy given the historical challenges Trump faced in aligning with both the Senate and the House during his first term.
“The Democrats had no impact on it. It’s the most clearly Republican resolution, certainly in the last 20 years. And I think the fact that John Thune was able to work as part of a team, it really says a lot because you’re right.
