Explorer Pipeline has been temporarily shut down, following a flash fire at a facility in Port Arthur, Texas, according to a statement released by the company and a shippers’ bulletin provided by a source.
“On Tuesday, Dec. 5, at approximately 3:45 p.m. a flash fire occurred at Explorer Pipeline’s Port Arthur facility while contractors were completing a project,” the statement, released earlier in the week, said.
The statement added that six people were sent to local area medical facilities, and two of the six were released after receiving treatment on Tuesday. The other four were expected to be released on Wednesday.
“The area of the pipeline where the incident occurred has been secured and safety precautions and protocols are in place. The incident has been contained and there is no risk to the surrounding area,” the statement noted.
A source provided a shippers’ bulletin which said, “Explorer’s mainline systems shut down yesterday (Thursday) morning and the lateral systems are shutting down this morning or early afternoon depending on each systems available inventory.”
