On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it had laid off 405 employees in the latest round of government cuts.
According to the Daily Caller, the majority of the layoffs were at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which fired over 200 employees.
The layoffs represent ongoing efforts by the Trump Administration to severely scale back the size of the federal government, primarily by cutting spending that is deemed wasteful, and eliminating jobs that are determined to be redundant or unnecessary. The administration has even engaged in efforts to completely abolish entire agencies, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Department of Education (ED).
Most of the government cuts are being overseen by the newly-established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is led by Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk, at the direction of President Donald Trump.
