The Brazilian army said Wednesday it was reinforcing its presence on the border with Guyana and Venezuela amid rising tensions between the northern neighbors over a disputed oil-rich region.
“The army has maintained constant monitoring of the borders to guarantee the inviolability of the territory. In that context, a reinforcement of troops… was anticipated in the cities of Pacaraima and Boa Vista” in Brazil’s north, the army said in a press release.
