Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington state, set off a firestorm during her interview with CNN’s Dana Bash Sunday morning. Her answer to whether or not she condemns Hamas for using rape as a weapon of war was unacceptable.
Jayapal tried to talk about finding some kind of balance when people talk about the hideous acts being committed by Hamas against Israeli women. There is no balance. When Bash asked about it, Jayapal launched into a lecture about how many Palestinians have been killed since Israel began to defend itself after October 7. She used numbers coming from Hamas propaganda so take her words with a big grain of salt.
While Jayapal, who is chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, condemned the rape of Israeli women by Hamas and called it “horrific” on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, she pointed out that over 15,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza since the start of the war and said, “I think we have to be balanced about bringing in the outrages against Palestinians.”
