A BRITISH soldier has died in a horror attack while off-duty in Kenya, the Ministry of Defence has said.
Major Kevin McCool, 32, was reportedly attacked while on a motorcycle trip off-base.
MoD officials confirmed the soldier’s next of kin have been informed, but said it would not be releasing any details of what happened, the BBC reports.
The Brit’s “tragic loss” was mourned by a flooding of tributes, led by Defence Secretary Grant Shapps.
“It’s clear from the tributes of those who knew him that Maj McCool was an exceptional person and an exceptional soldier, loved and respected in equal measure, who served his country with distinction,” he said.
Maj McCool died on Thursday, November 29, the MoD said.
He was commissioned from Sandhurst in August 2014 and was deployed in Europe, the Middle East, the Falklands and Africa.
The 32-year-old had a “glittering operational record” as he passed the military’s toughest tests with flying colours, the MoD said in a eulogy.
