OTTAWA–Unemployment in Canada again moved higher in November, ratcheting up as the country’s population growth continued to outpace a modest rise in employment.
Statistics Canada reported Friday that Canada’s economy added a net 24,900 jobs for the month. Market expectations were for the addition of 14,000 jobs, according to economists at TD Securities.
The unemployment rate rose to 5.8%, in line with expectations and following an advance to 5.7% the month before.
When calculated using U.S. Labor Department methodology, Canada’s unemployment rate in November was down 0.1 percentage point at 4.7%.
