On Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris reignited controversy with her comments about Russia’s interference in the 2016 US Presidential election. Harris, who served on the Senate Intelligence Committee, ranted about the claims of her investigation into Russia’s interference supposedly targeting specific American groups with disinformation.
While deflecting a question about the regulation of TikTok, Harris diverted to discuss the role of social media in spreading disinformation, specifically citing Russia’s ‘involvement’ in the 2016 election.
“What should happen to TikTok?” Andrew Sorkin asked.
“Well, I’ll step back for a moment and say that one of the things that should keep all of us up at night, is the level of myth and disinformation that is rampant and has been facilitated in a most extreme way by social media,” Harris said.
