Former President Donald Trump remains undefeated in attempts by opponents to keep him off state ballots in next year’s elections.
On Monday, a federal judge in Rhode Island ruled that President Trump is entitled to appear on the 2024 ballot after finding that John Anthony Castro, a Texas-based Republican candidate for president, lacked legal standing to bring the challenge. The decision tracks with one earlier this month in New Hampshire which also slapped down Castro for attempting to deny Trump a fair and free election.
Castro, whose quixotic bid has earned him virtually nothing, failed to prove he was a “direct and current competitor at the time that he filed his complaint,” according to U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell. “Castro makes no attempt to demonstrate that he is actually competing with Trump for votes and contributions,” making him ineligible to claim that he is injured by President Trump appearing on the state’s ballot.
The former president’s campaign happily touted the news in a press release.
“President Trump remains undefeated in beating back these spurious claims,” campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.
