Robert DeNiro erupted into yet another anti-Trump tirade while speaking at the Gotham Awards in New York City before taking aim at Apple for initially cutting it from his remarks.
“The beginning of my speech was edited — cut out, I didn’t know about it, and I want to read it,” De Niro said after taking the stage. He then delivered his unedited remarks before introducing the Historical Icon and Creator Tribute award for the Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon, which was financed by Apple.
“History isn’t history anymore. Truth is not truth. Even facts are being replaced by alternative facts, and driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness,” the legendary actor said. He then repeated the thoroughly debunked claim that Florida students are taught about the “benefits” of slavery.
“The entertainment industry isn’t immune to this festering disease. The Duke John Wayne famously said of Native Americans; ‘I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.’”
